As there is no airport on St. John, ferries are an essential part of visiting the island. You'll need to first fly into St. Thomas and then take a ferry over to St. John. There's no need to worry about frantically rushing to the docks, though, as the St. John, USVI, ferry schedule is very accommodating. Passenger ferries depart from more than one port on St. Thomas and do so at frequent and regular intervals throughout the day.

Transportation Services of St. John is a ferry company that offers low-cost ferry rides between St. Thomas and St. John seven days a week. The company has two ports on St. Thomas, one at Red Hook and another at Charlotte Amalie, and one at Cruz Bay on St. John. You can buy tickets at the ferry or purchase them ahead of time by going to the Transportation Services of St. John website.

Inter Island Boat Services also provides passenger ferry travel between the islands seven days a week, but the departure times are more limited. These ferries do sell out more regularly than the others, so it may be best to buy tickets early from the Inter Island Boat Services website.
