Is a 46 foot Beneteau Oceanis
built in 2000. She is one of the most beautiful boats available for
sailing charters on St. John or St. Thomas and is meticulously
maintained to ensure your comfort and safety. Her long hull, designed
by Bruce Farr and Associates, provides a very fast and relaxing sail.
She is the perfect blend of speed and comfort that will guarantee a
wonderful day for the whole family sailing on the beautiful tropical
waters of the Caribbean Sea. She has a large comfortable cockpit with
plenty of room to stretch out and an easy access transom equipped with
a shower for when you return from swimming and snorkeling in the
crystal clear turquoise waters of the USVI and the British Virgin
Islands.
Bread on the Water is also one of the few charter boats in the USVI
available for a sailing charter to Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands where
you can visit the world famous Foxy's
Tamarind Bar and Grill, the Soggy
Dollar Bar (home of the Painkiller) or the new Foxy's
Taboo
and walk the beautiful white sand beaches in White Bay. Captain Gary
says, "The sail to Jost is our favorite sail because it is a wonderful
sail both coming and going and Jost is such a beautiful destination
with so much to see and do. Despite U.S. Homeland Security paperwork
that is daunting for most small day sail charter operations we refuse
to give up our favorite sailing trip." Please remember that passports
are required for travel to and from the BVIs. Custom's fees are the
responsibility of the charter client.
Around St. John:
Sailing the beautiful turquoise waters around St. John and
the other Virgin Islands is a great way to enjoy the spectacular
beauty of the islands and see the lovely beaches and
coves of the Virgin Island's
National Park
as well as the smaller outlying islands. All sailing charters can be
exclusive to one group and you can customize your sailing charter to
highlight the interests of your group. Whether a vigorous day sailing
or a relaxing day lounging in the sun and swimming or something in
between, Bread on the Water will help you realize why they call the
Virgin Islands paradise. Whether you charter a sunset sail, a half day sail,
a full day sail or an overnight sail, the time you spend sailing with us will
be the most memorable of your vacation.

Bread on the Water can be chartered
exclusively for a group of up to 6 people. Food, beverages, snorkel
gear and fresh water showers are all provided. Please call to discuss
details about how to customize your sailing experience and make it the
best day of your vacation. The Crew:
Your hosts, Joan and Gary Van Hoven, are both U.S. Coast Guard licensed
Captains who have been racing and cruising on an assortment of
sailboats since 1975. They are intimately familiar with the hospitality
industry, having recently sold their restaurant and bakery business in
Maryland, Joan & Gary's Original Bagel Co., after 35 years in
business. So, the transition to a day sailing charter business is only
a natural marriage between their love of sailing and their love of
people. Of course, they also know how to provide a good nosh.
Since selling their restaurant, they have been fulfilling their dream
of sailing the Caribbean. They have been cruising both the Leeward
Islands and the Windward Islands to Grenada and back since purchasing Bread on the Water
in 2000. But, they fell in love with St. John and the beautiful waters
around the Virgin Islands where practically every day provides perfect
sailing conditions. They have been based out of Great Cruz Bay on the
west coast of St. John since starting their day sail charter business
in 2001. Captain Joan says that it is their love of people that has led
them into sharing their dream come true through chartering.
